A geodesic dome is a spherical or partial-spherical shell structure or lattice shell based on a network of great circles(geodesics) on the surface of a sphere. The geodesics intersect to form triangular elements that have local triangular rigidity and also distribute the stress across the structure. When completed to form a complete sphere, it is a geodesic sphere. As an architecture studio we have been exploring Geodesics for several projects – and undertook the idea of creating products – “Micro-architecture” inspired from geodesic forms. The lamp bases are finished with experimentation of the ageing process of metals through home-made acids; making every product unique and one of a kind. The geodesic lamp shades can be given a translucent or opaque effect though the choice of shade material.
The lamps are hand-made and customizable to site and client requirements.
The lamp frame for the Geodesic Lamp I is a tribute to the “Hydro-Tower” (electricity transmission tower structure). Suspension towers and transmission of electricity have been the key element in the development of the industrial and developing age. The lamp structure is inspired by the lattice forms of these structures.
